In September, Ehren and I went on vacation to the White Mountains as a belated celebration for our 5 year anniversary. We had a wonderful relaxing trip and did a lot of hiking.
This is a scenic overlook in Intervale which has the reputation for being the most photographed spot. Even though Mt Washington is hidden under fog, with the leaves just starting to change, it is a beautiful spot.
On our second day, we did a hike called square ledge across the road (or notch) from Mt. Washington. Here fog is creeping over the mountain.

We went on a tourist attraction in Franconia Notch called Lost River Gorge. Boardwalks and ladders have been built along a deep gorge and waterfalls and caves into the rock. It was a fun place to explore.
For this one cave, you have to be able to fit through the "Squeezer Gauge", before entering, otherwise a person would probably get stuck inside the cave; the entrance is that narrow!

Ehren and I had the goal of climbing one of the mountains in the Presidential Range, although we both agreed that we weren't quite up to climbing Washington this year. We settled on Mt. Eisenhower, a 4,780 footer. It ended up being probably the most difficult hike we have done. The trail is 6.6 miles round trip and by the time we got down to the bottom, we were definately done for the day!

At treeline, there is a sign warning hikers that ahead is the worst weather in America, many people have died after this point due to exposure and to turn back if the weather is bad. A bit daunting, but we were prepared for wind and there wasn't rain in forecast so we continued.

Over Columbus Day weekend, Ehren and I went to Jackman, ME, a tiny town far up in Northwest Maine, about 10 miles from the Canadian border. My parents were spending the week there and we visited them for a long weekend. The foliage was at it's peak and absolutely gorgeous. 
It seemed that the two main industries in Jackman were logging and hunting. As we were there during the start of moose hunting season, we saw lots of pickups with gunracks, hunters walking around carrying guns, and a few dead moose. Although we were hoping to see a live one, I think they were keeping themselves pretty scarce. We did see lots of tracks though.
